About
the artist.

I'm Stelios Tzamarias, an oil painter based between Chania, Crete and Perth, Western Australia. Born and raised in Australia to Greek parents, I received my degree in IT from Curtin University of Technology, in Perth. I worked for a number of years in large companies. However, art was always something that excited me and I would make an effort to go to art exhibitions whenever I could. I admire artists such as Caravaggio, Degas, Sargent, Sorolla, Vermeer and Zorn and have even attempted to paint copies of some of their paintings. I enjoy painting figures, seascapes, landscapes, and narrative and aim to make my paintings speak to the viewer.

I began painting seriously in 2022 and have exhibited in my works in Chania. In August 2026 I will be exhibiting again in Chania with fellow local artists, around the theme Ενδιάμεσοι Τόποι — Borderline Places — exploring light and shadow, the visible and the implied.

I'm a member of Neorion Technis - the Pancretan Association of Visual Artists.
